Winners of the Tiki Throwdown 2024

This year's competition saw a dazzling display of creativity, with cocktails that honored tiki's rich history while boldly embracing modern flavors & techniques. The standout creations weren't just drinks—they were masterpieces that highlighted the incredible skill & passion of their creators. Here are the winners of the Best Tiki Cocktail of NYC along with the cocktails, spirits, & bartenders who captivated the judges at this legendary competition, the "TiKi Throw Down."

"Siren Song" - Porchlight

Cocktail in Canteloup

1st Place - Best Tiki Cocktail of the Year 2024

Tasty deception, nothing is what it seems to be, like the sirens themselves who make think you know what you’re getting into, but you couldn’t be more mistaken! POV: you’re Odysseus being lured in by the sirens only to eventually realize your inevitable fate!

This cocktail crafted with Balcones Lineage, Agricole Blend, Mr. Black, Espresso, Cantaloupe Puree, Pineapple, Lime, Demerara, Bar spoon Coconut Yogurt. Whip shake & pour into a hollowed cantaloupe with crushed ice. Cut the top of melon into ‘jagged rock’ formations & use as a garnish, working it into a section of the rim. Add coffee beans for rocky island effect with mint sprigs on both sides. Add plastic mermaid on "island" for "siren" effect. Place the melon on top of wicker rocks glass with Amaro Lucano & ‘sunken ship’ garnish.

"The Way of Cane"- Paradise Lost

cauldron cocktail

2nd Place - Best Tiki Cocktail 2024

Inspired by Head Bartender of Paradise Lost, Silas Parry's love of food & the beauty simplicity of creating a well composed dish from the humblest ingredients. Before pivoting to bartending, Silas held jobs as an audio engineer & cook. Though different on the surface, each position pushed him to seek balance & harmony while still pushing his creative boundaries; a through-line that can be seen in "The Way of Cane". Familiar flavor pairings of coconut, lime, & r(h)um are turned on their head with the addition of buzz buttons, szechuan peppercorn, & fresh carrots-- creating a robust flavor profile that seems intimidating at first, but meld together in an undeniably exciting & nuanced cocktail.

Planteray 3 Star, Rhum JM 55, Planteray Cut + Dry, Pernod Absinthe,

Buzz Button Tincture, Ginger Syrup, Szechuan Carrot Syrup, Lime Juice, & Coconut Cream

"The Hundred Islands" - A10 Kitchen

cocktails and spirit bottles

3rd Place Best Tiki Cocktail 2024 & People's Choice Best Tiki Cocktail

“The Hundred Islands” is a cocktail inspired by flavors introduced to me in my Filipino household . Jackfruit was one of my mother’s favorite ingredients to use in dishes both sweet & savory. After Nick from Dovetail shared that his inspiration behind his Cutthroat Oat Whiskey was his mother’s oatmeal raisin cookies, I automatically knew that it would be a perfect match to complete my cocktail. Cheers to our mothers!

Dovetail Cut Throat Whiskey, Appleton Estate Jamaican Rum, Licor 43, Jackfruit, Pistachio Cardamom Orgeat, Lime. Shake & Strain into Tiki Glass with Chip Ice. Garnish with Banana Coconut Sugar, Spring of Mint, & Cocktail Umbrella!
